If you hold an approved electrical theory qualification
Applicants with an accepted JIB-approved electrical theory qualification or assessment can use that evidence for the card and must also meet the ECS health and safety requirement.
ECS Electrical Labourer Card Guide
The ECS Electrical Labourer Card is designed for people supporting electricians and other qualified staff with tasks such as cable installation and other unskilled electrical work under supervision.
If you are looking for a recognised health and safety route, the SPA Core Health & Safety Course is one of the courses accepted by ECS for the Electrical Labourer Card. For eligible applicants, completing it within the required timeframe can also provide an exemption from the separate ECS Health, Safety & Environmental Assessment.
Requirements
Your exact route depends on the qualifications and evidence you already hold. ECS currently sets out two main routes for Electrical Labourer applicants.
Applicants with an accepted JIB-approved electrical theory qualification or assessment can use that evidence for the card and must also meet the ECS health and safety requirement.
ECS accepts specified health and safety qualifications or courses for this route, including the Safety Passport Alliance (SPA) Core Health & Safety Course.
Depending on your application route, ECS may require evidence that you are engaged in the electrotechnical industry, such as employer evidence, relevant qualifications, course enrolment or other accepted documentation.
SPA route
The Safety Passport Alliance Core Health & Safety Course is specifically listed by ECS among the approved health and safety courses for the Electrical Labourer Card route.
ECS also lists the SPA Core H&S Course as an exemption from its separate Health, Safety & Environmental Assessment when the certificate meets the current exemption conditions. ECS states that recognised exemption certificates must generally have been issued within three years of the ECS application being received.
This is why SPA Core Day can be a useful route for people who need the recognised health and safety element of an ECS Electrical Labourer Card application.
See Dates & BookCompleting the course does not automatically guarantee that an ECS card will be issued.
The course addresses the relevant health and safety requirement. ECS/JIB remains responsible for deciding whether an applicant meets all current requirements for the card being requested.
Always check the latest ECS eligibility rules before submitting your card application.
